F0011 – 1025 Robson St. Vancouver, BC

Forever 21, Keihls, Taste of Spring, Little Burgundy, Canadian Crafts

Scott C. Mitchell, Project Architect and Associate @ Francl Architecture

This commercial retail project transformed a mid block of Robson street within Vancouver’s central shopping area, through a complicated extreme renovation.  A series of distinct two-story storefronts create an individual identity for the smaller ground floor shops of Kiehls, Canadian Crafts, Taste of Spring and Little Burgundy, and creates a grand entrance and access to the second storey tenant Forever 21 while integrating the existing ALDO cru.  ALDO and the 2 storey underground parking remained operational throughout the demolition and rebuilding of the adjacent shops. Each storefront “portal” massing uses a different main material such as board-formed concrete, honed limestone, rough granite, or smooth white tile, along with Sapphire double glazing and projecting steel and glass canopies.

This project was designed in collaboration with EIGHT INC. and targeted LEED GOLD equivalent.
